So like hey Diane, I'm not a girl but I heard this is a kick-butt race. Can I do it?
Ya for sure! It's always been for girls and guys. The race name throws a lot of folks off. Dirty boys, dirty girls - whatever - you're all welcome!
Do I have to run for the entire 6, 12 or 24 hours?
Heck no! Most runners run what they feel like running. If you decide you want to put in only three or four hours - go for it! Just be careful of rules for teams that state that all teams must have a runner on course in the last hour of the race. Also be aware that there are minimum lap requirements to receive a dirty girls award. See below for rules on points and awards.
Do you measure partial laps?
Ya ya. At first we weren't going to, but everyone asked for this rule so we begged a whole bunch of people to go stand out in the woods at the 2.5k, 5k & 7.5k points during the last hour of each race to mark runners going by.
Is your course well marked?
Hell yes! We've also taken everyone's suggestions from 2007 to improve marking for 2008.
Can we preview the course?
Mansfield Outdoor Centre is privately held land that is rented out to groups only. We held a preview run in 2007 based on demand. If you have a group that would like to do a preview run, email me & we'll work something out! I'll post any group runs on the message bar on this site.
Is camping included for my crew?
Camping costs are super cheap & the facilities at Mansfield Outdoor Centre are uber-great! The $15 weekend camp fee is included in the registration fees of 12 & 24 hour racers only. If your crew and/or family
come up to stay for Friday or Saturday night, the $15 fee applies. If you are a 24 hour solo racer and have one crew member with you for Saturday night only, no fee applies.
Other accomodation options:
Mansfield Trailer Park (~15 minute walk to the south end of the property)
Mansfield Bed & Breakfast Links
Will family be able to cheer me on?
Right on! Race Headquarters and the start/finish are located in a big field with a small building that has running water & two flush toilets. Tents can be set up all along the start/finish to cheer you on. A decent sized river is located about a 15 minute walk to the south end of the property. Camp fires are usually not permitted as it is pretty dry in the field by race time in August. Trailers must be booked into the formal campground on the property. This is about a 15 minute walk from Race Headquarters. Cars cannot be driven up the escarpment to the 5k aid station but we are happy to transport your drop bags/fuel refills on our aid station refuelling runs.
How do rules work for points with the Ontario Ultra Series and dirty girls awards?
Simple. To qualify for an age category award in one of the most crazy dirty girls awards ceremonies, you must run at least three laps in the six hour event; five laps in the twelve hour event, and eight laps in the twenty-four hour event. On the other hand, any distance qualifies you for points in the Ontario Ultra Series. In this event, there are no dnfs - "did not finish."
What's your policy on refunds?
No refunds.
I'd like to do your race, but I'm not sure about the length. Can you help me with my running?
Ha ha ha ha ha. I'm a bad runnner so probably not. The emphasis with the dirty girls 6, 12 & 24 hour event is on fun. The course is truly beautiful and very runnable. It can also be a little deceiving, however, with its hills. Come on out, take it easy, enjoy the course, love the running, enjoy the crazy community and see how you go. I'd love help volunteering if you just want to be out for the weekend but maybe don't want to run. Of course, there is the relay team category as an option too.
